Kullu is the capital town of the Kullu District, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located on the banks of the Beas River in the Kullu Valley about ten kilometres north of the airport at Bhuntar. Kullu is a broad open valley formed by the Beas river. This valley is famous for the beauty and its majestic hills covered with pine and deodar forest and sprawling apple orchards. Kullu valley is sandwiched between the Pir Panjal, Lower Himalayan and the Great Himalayan range.


Manali, at the northern end of the Kullu Valley, is a hill station situated at a height of 2050 m. Situated on the Beas river and near its source, it is a popular tourist spot in summer and a magical, snow-covered place in winter. A staging point for a number of treks (Beas Kund, Chandrakhani Pass) and sports such as whitewater rafting, paragliding an skiing, Manali is also on the road to Ladakh via the valley of Lahaul and Spiti and Rohtang Pass which is one of the main attractions near Manali. The Hindus believe that Manu recreated human life in Manali after the flood.

Kasol and Manikaran

Kasol is a village situated on the banks of the Parvati River and has recently transformed into a hub for backpackers. Foreigners are attracted to the scenic valley, untouched hills, low population, and great climate throughout the year.

Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. The Hindus believe that the wife of Shiva goddess Parvati lost her earrings which were found by the devotee of Shiva, Sheesh Nag, also known as the serpent god, who in anger spat fire and is said to have created the boiling hot springs at Manikaran.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is situated on the height of 3979 m. on the highway to Keylong/Leh and is 51 km. from Manali. It offers a spectacular panoramic mountain view. The pass is open from June to October each year although trekkers can cross it earlier. It is a gateway to Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and Leh Valley. The Rohtang pass keeps inspiring every visitor agian and again through its captivating views over glaciers, mountains peaks and the Chandra river flowing down in the Lahaul valley.


On the left bank of the river Beas and about three hundred metres above the river, Naggar is delightfully situated on the wooded slope and commands an extensive view, especially over the North-West of the Kullu valley. The beautiful Naggar castle (now a Himachal Tourism hotel and restaurant) is the legacy of its status as the old capital of the former Kullu Kingdom about 500 years ago. The castle commands an incredible view of the river far below and the villages that litter the opposite bank, with the distant snow peaks beyond the Rohtang Pass visible on a clear day.


An ancient village dedicated to the guru of Lord Rama, nestled under the mountain hosting the majestic Brighu lake. It has a reverad hot spring known to have medicinal properties and also has the shrine dedicated to Lord Rama along the shrine of his guru, the holy sage Lord Vashist. Architecture dating back five centuries.
